It had to happen. The older cats at the Edison Animal Shelter finally got tired of being overlooked in favor of those darned kittens that seem to be everywhere and are taking matters into their own hands, er, paws. Led by Hailey, the gentle dilute calico (it’s always the quiet ones, isn’t it?), the senior cats have joined forces and formed their own gang, determined to be noticed! Dubbed by the mature felines the “Wise Whiskers Gang,” they are taking their message to the media – both mainstream and social – to make it known that they have some clear advantages to which no kitten – cute as they may be – can lay claim. Membership in this exclusive club is limited to cats age six and up. Another requirement is a laid back attitude and a liking for laps.
“Listen up, people,” says Sinbad, a gentleman of a certain age (and girth, truth be told), “do you really like being woken up in the middle of the night by having your toes attacked? That’s what kittens do! An older cat, like me, is happier curled up all night sleeping, keeping you warm.”
Dawn, a beautiful 10 year old tux with a shy demeanor, concurs with her fellow gang member. “There’s nothing better than snuggling on the couch with your favorite human, especially on those cold winter days. Kittens cuddle for about a minute, then they’re off looking for trouble.”
To help promote the senior cats at the Edison Animal Shelter, the adoption fee has been reduced from $75 to $25, and each senior cat adopter will also receive a $25 gift card to Petco. The offer is good through September 30th. For pictures and profiles, visit www.SammysHope.org and click on the Adoptable Cats link. Wise Whiskers Gang members currently available are China Girl, Hailey, Sinbad, Dawn and Dennis.
Everyone of these older cats deserves to live out their golden years in a home, with warm laps and sunny windows. They are some of the hardest to find homes for, and when you adopt a senior cat, you are truly saving a life.
The Edison Animal Shelter is located at 125 Municipal Blvd. and is open daily from 11:30 am – 4:30 pm, until 7:30 pm each Wednesday, and Saturdays from 10 am to 1 pm.
